The DNA of Miscommunication

In Episode 20 we will be talking about something that we don't love digging into it. Miscommunication. In our lives, we are communicating in so many different ways so it is inevitable that some types of miscommunication are going to come up. It's unavoidable. That's why I am sharing in this episode what we can do to get through those uncomfortable moments so that you can better communicate with your peers and your team. I'm sharing four questions that you can ask yourself when miscommunication comes up. Let's get into it!

Listen to the full episode here.

The Four Questions:

Question #1: Were you crystal clear? Did you communicate the details of what you needed as clearly as possible?

Question #2: Have the circumstances changed?

  • Did you get an update that you didn’t convey to your team?

  • Have you received new information that hasn’t trickled down yet?

  • Have priorities shifted?

Question #3: Did you communicate the request or information in multiple different ways?

  • Some people may be able to take the information and run with it. Some may need a visual, and some may just need to do the task to learn. Think about the different personalities on your team and tailor the information to that.

Question #4: Were you honest?

  • Is what you agreed in line with what you actually wanted?

These are the four questions that are essential to ask yourself when miscommunication comes up. These questions are not only beneficial with miscommunications among your team at work, but also in your personal relationships. They can help turn a miscommunication into a good communication. I highly encourage you to try these out and when you do, let me know! Let’s continue the conversation on Instagram!
