Two Truths and a Lie | How to Break Free From the Winter Blues

Happy Monday, friends! This week on the podcast we are talking about the winter blues and how to break free from them.

Before we get too far, I definitely want to give a DISCLAIMER. I am not a therapist or a doctor. If you have been experiencing mental health issues I would recommend going to see a therapist, doctor or other licensed professional. The purpose of this episode is too bring awareness to what a lot of us are going through right now, and to talk to you about what has been helping me as I move through the winter blues.

To talk through this I decided to play two truths and a lie. There are two very important truths that have helped me and a really big fat lie that has not. Nonetheless, the lie is important to acknowledge. So if you have been in a fun lately and are looking for ways to move through it, this episode is for you. Let’s dive in!

Notes from the show:

Truth #1

  • When you are in a funk or if you are experiencing the winter blues, you need to have time with you, and for you. AKA self care and alone time!

    • As humans we crave that introspective time with ourselves to think and reflect and absorb all that has happened to us so we need that time to ourselves. This doesn’t mean we need massive amounts of time to yourself

Truth #2

  • Action creates a change in mood and perspective. Some things you can do to take action

    • Schedule dinner with a good friend and talk to them about what you’re going through

    • Workout! This is amazing because you are moving your body but you can also be thinking in your mind. You can use that time to process what you’re going through.

    • Journaling.

    • Going for a drive and putting on a good playlist

    • Take a mental health day from work

The Lie

  • Anytime we’re not feeling quite like ourselves we immediately go into a place where we say “something is wrong with me.”  THIS IS THE LIE!!!
